The Market That Gives Back

The mission of Slabtown Makers Market is to facilitate a meaningful partnership between consumers, makers, and local non-profits. We recognize the work of those who help our most vulnerable neighbors, and want to help keep money in our community in order to make Portland a more vibrant, resilient, and just place.

Our Makers donate 5-10% of their sales from our markets to one of the non-profits we are featuring at that market. So when you spend your money with small businesses at Slabtown Makers Market, you are support more than an artist, you are supporting our community.

We were thrilled to raise over $30k for 15 non-profits at our April, July, & December markets in 2021. Read about the organizations we supported in December below.

December Market Beneficiaries

Raphael House

For over 40 years, Raphael House of Portland has helped survivors find safety, hope, and independence. Since opening their doors in 1977, they’ve offered uninterrupted access to emergency domestic violence shelter in a confidential location.

Their programs continue to evolve to meet the changing needs of survivors and our community in creative and innovative ways. In 2006, their Prevention Education Program was established to address the underlying causes of intimate partner violence and create a healthier and safer community for everyone.

North Pole Studio

North Pole Studio is a nonprofit studio and exhibition program that supports artists with autism and intellectual / developmental disabilities (I/DD) pursue self-determined lives and careers in the arts.

They exist to increase opportunities for artists with autism and I/DD to thrive as active and visible members of the arts community. Through programming that is focused in three areas: access to opportunities; artist representation; and community engagement, North Pole Studio contributes to shaping an art world that equitably honors and represents neurodiverse artists.

The Pixie Project

The Pixie Project is a non-profit animal adoption center and rescue. They offer a variety of services to the public including but not limited to: pet adoption services, pet owner education and support and low cost and free spay and neuter and veterinary services for homeless and low-income pet owners.

The Pixie Project focuses on finding life-long matches between pet and adopter and for that reason our adoption process is a bit more in depth than some other shelters. They appreciate the opportunity to sit down and talk with any person or family looking to adopt a new pet so we can best help them find an animal that suits their home and lifestyle.

Urban League of Portland

Urban League of Portland is one of Oregon’s oldest civil rights and social service organizations, empowering African-Americans and others to achieve equality in education, employment, health, economic security and quality of life.

They do this by investing in stable housing; through workforce development; community health; education and well-being; for our youth, adults and seniors. Their culturally specific programs and services, combined with our powerful advocacy and civic engagement, empowers Black communities to thrive across Oregon and SW Washington.

Village Gardens

By growing food, sharing food, and selling food, Our Village Gardens builds resilience alongside neighbors in New Columbia, Oregon's largest affordable housing community.

Our Village Gardens provides free community garden space for over 70 households, access to free fruit from 50 trees in the community orchard, provides free weekly produce deliveries to neighborhood seniors, and host the true heart of this neighborhood - the Village Market grocery store.
